Defying Gravity; Shelly Jorgensen (For Girls; Youth Conference)
Shelly Jorgensen is a full-time mother, wife and hard-working engineering student. She is a junior studying civil engineering at the University of Nebraska and will complete her bachelor’s degree next May. She is the mother of two teenage boys who keep on her toes. She loves to be active and participates in a master’s swimming program, lifts weights regularly, ice skates and is learning to golf. Shelly loves singing, is a soloist, and has directed church choirs. Currently, she is a teacher for the Relief Society in her Ward.Always adventurous, she has encouraged her family to explore and expand their interests, as she herself has done. With her encouragement, the Jorgensen’s have moved from California, to Virginia, back to California, and then to Nebraska all within the last ten years. A stay-at-home mother while her children were young, Shelly was actively involved in church, school and community events. Shelly previously earned two health related bachelor’s degrees, one from Utah State University and one from Purdue University where she graduated summa cum laud with honors. She plans to pursue a master’s degree and eventually a Ph.D. in materials engineering, and hopes to be able to join her diverse backgrounds in a career exploring innovative bio-materials.
