It is no surprise the family is under attack. In the April 2013 General Conference Elder Packer said, “The family, the fundamental organization in time and eternity, is under attack from forces seen and unseen.”
The intensity has increased and our youth are being bombarded with confusing ideas and pernicious doctrine. More than ever we need support to raise a righteous generation. Five years ago a group of LDS mothers from Omaha formed an organization to do just that.
Heartland Home Educators began in 2012 with a small conference of just 15 parents. The following year the conference grew to 75 and HHE was officially organized as a non-profit 501c3 corporation. In 2015 we added a youth conference to our annual event to provide support, encouragement and cultural enrichment opportunities for our youth.
These inspiring conferences are like EFY, BYU Education Week and Time Out for Women all rolled into one. We go to great effort to make sure every conference is inspiring, motivating and memorable. We have received numerous emails from youth and parents expressing their gratitude for having such an outstanding family event with high caliber speakers, enrichment activities and the kind of wholesome entertainment families are seeking.
This year we are thrilled to have Stacey Harkey and Natalie Madsen from Studio C attending the conference.
Also coming are LDS author and producer Chris Heimerdinger (Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites) and Jeneve Mitchell, the 15 year-old LDS teen who was a finalist on the 2016 season of American Idol. The conference will be full inspiring speakers sharing topics to support and encourage parents and strengthen and motivate youth.
As parenting becomes increasingly more challenging, families are hungering for inspiration, support and encouragement more than ever. That’s the very reason we host these conferences. It is our hope that these conferences will be a blessing for the many families here in the Midwest. Thank you for sharing this information with the families in your community.
