Heartland Home Educators is a non-profit, 501 c3 educational organization incorporated in the state of Nebraska. The organization was founded in response to the ever growing number of parents expressing a desire for support in teaching and rearing a righteous posterity. Our main focus is our annual Home Education Conference designed specifically for LDS families to provide support for home educators in Midwest America. All parents are invited to attend the conference regardless of where their children learn (private, public, charter, or home). We desire to share the best resources, philosophy, and methodology centered on laying Christ at the foundation of all that happens within the walls of the home.
In 2012 a small liberty-based homeschool co-op of LDS families called Foundations of Liberty was organized in Omaha Nebraska. The co-op began with a handful families who had a desire to work together to inspire their children and support each other. In the spring of 2013, these families decided to hold a Home Education conference for LDS homeschool families, and those considering homeschooling, in the Omaha area. Fifteen moms attended that first conference. In May of 2014, they held a second conference where over 75 moms and dads attended to be rejuvenated, enlightened, and inspired by the speakers and presentations--some traveling from as far as Arizona and Arkansas.
It was clear from this rapid rate of growth and interest in the conference that there was a great need for support for LDS families who choose to, or are considering homeschooling in the Midwest. It was therefore decided that the conference should continue and include a youth conference. Desiring to make sure the conference received the full attention it needed without pulling from the focus of the Foundations of Liberty co-op, it was decided that the conference would be separate from Foundations of Liberty. So, in the summer of 2014, three of the members of FOL, Rachael Chappell, Colina Matthews, Kimberly Fletcher, came together to form Heartland Home Educators to present the annual conference. Creating Heartland Home Educators as a separate organization allows us to focus on the Conference and provide cultural and enrichment opportunities and experiences for LDS families in the Midwest. The goal of HHE is to provide an annual conference that will become a valuable asset to parents and positive, enriching experience for the entire family.
No matter where our children attend school, we are all home educators!
Whatever the era, whatever the times, one thing will never change:
Fathers and mothers, if you have children, they must come first. You must read to your children and you must hug your children and you love your children. Your success as a family, our success as a society, depends not on what happens in the White House but on what happens inside your house.
